[edit] Homeschooling project
I would like invite others to discuss the idea of a WikiProject on homeschooling. I think that Wikipedia is an unprecedented resource for education. A project centered around homeschooling could be a way to build resource lists, arrange WP articles into curricula, provide tutorials and how-to's, and much more. Figuring out a way for the world to use WP as an organized, dependable engine for do-it-yourself education would be, in my opinion, invaluable.
[edit] Discussion
In an effort to keep all conversations from getting confusing, please direct all questions, comments, suggestions, concerns to the project discussion page.
[edit] Scope and goals
I think the ultimate goal is to create a Portal through which to access all homeschool related articles, resources, Wikibooks, projects, etc. The current Portal:Education is completely devoid of information in this area (unless you dig). After considerable development of this Project, but before trying to launch an independent Portal of our own, we should discuss assimilating our work into their Portal. After all, that's where people will look first. Please feel free to discuss.
Note: While many of the resources to be found on this subject are faith-based, the scope of this project is to include all home education resources, both faith-based and not.
[edit] Task list
The following list is just an initial suggestion regarding the tasks at hand, as well as the order in which they are executed. Please feel free to make suggestions.
[edit] 1. Taskforce
Beat the bushes. Search the history, talk, discussion pages of homeschool related subjects for project team candidates. Direct them to this page to discuss joining the effort. Sign your name below here if you are interested in contributing to the goals of this project.
[edit] 2. Research
Search and catalog the whole of Wikipedia and Sister projects for related content, so we know what we have to start with. Results are being compiled on the research page.
[edit] 3. Evaluation
Determine from our research what assets Wiki currently offers, and what it lacks.
[edit] 4. Content development
Develop articles/content to fill the gaps that currently exist in the Wiki family.
[edit] 5. Platform
Research existing Portal templates to determine which one best suits the needs of this project.
