The Master is a fictional character who appeared in the 1966 movie Manos: The Hands of Fate. He was played by Tom Neyman. The Master was the undead leader of a cult that worshipped the god Manos. He had a number of wives, and a dog. The Master wore black, flowing robes that had two large, red outstreched hands on the front. Also visible was the zipper on The Master's costume, his blue jeans underneath, and his sandals. The wives all wore white translucent gowns. Like many supposedly evil and enraged dogs in bad films, the Master's dog (possibly a Dobermann) looks far too friendly and happy to inspire much fear.

Because the movie was a failure, the movie and The Master character were largely forgotten until the movie was featured in an episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000. The film attained a cult status of sorts following the episode, as did several of the characters in the film.

The Master role would be Tom Neyman's only movie role. Neyman would later move with his daughter to California. He eventually moved to the Pacific Northwest.

[edit] Trivia

  • In the MST3K episode that features Manos, one of the host segments features Joel Robinson mocking the Master by donning a cloak similar to the Master's, though, instead of large red hands, it was large red feet. Crow T. Robot portrayed himself as the Master's "evil Hellbeast" in an attempt to scare Tom Servo, which horribly fails.
  • The "Guys" from Mystery Science Theater, as well as reviewers of the film compare the Master's appearance to that of Freddie Mercury.
