Massage therapist organizations

There are many different massage therapist organizations with many different purposes. Many separate techniques have their own professional association to support their work.
There are three main professional associations for the massage profession each with their own agendas, purpose and missions. The massage profession is divided because of this fact.

The Associated Bodywork and Massage professionals (ABMP) an international, for-profit, organization of Professional Massage Therapists and Bodyworkers.

The American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) is the largest non-profit professional organization of massage therapists in the United States, although there are other professional organizations. It is only the largest of non-profit organizations. ABMP currently has more professional members but it is a for profit organization.

The Association of Massage Therapists and Wholistic Practitioners is a national association for people who provide massage therapy treatment in Canada. Its members are massage therapists and other touch therapists throughout Canada, but are primarily in Alberta.

The Canadian Massage Therapist Alliance is the national alliance for the provincial massage therapy associations in Canada. Its membership consists of the provincial associations as a whole, not individual members.

The College of Massage Therapists of Ontario regulates the profession of massage therapy in the province of Ontario.

The Canadian Sports Massage Therapist Association is the national, not-for-profit association for sports massage therapists working in Canada. It sets standards and provides certification for its members and also promotes the profession.
