One section of Route 8A (8A-U) runs along former Route 8 in North Adams and is 3.17 miles long. The other section (8A-L) begins at the junction with Route 9 in Dalton, runs concurrently with Route 9 east to Windsor, then goes north through Savoy and Hawley, to the Vermont state line in Heath. Both sections exist at the same portion of Route 8, a rarity for suffixed routes.
