MassINC - The Massachusetts Institute for a New Commonwealth - is a nonpartisan, evidence-based organization chartered to develop a public agenda that promotes the growth and vitality of the middle class across Massachusetts. It brings together diverse perspectives – including those held by conservatives and liberals, business and labor, advocates and policy makers – to focus on the challenge of achieving the American Dream in the Bay State. Founded in 1996, the organization is headquartered near the seat of Massachusetts state government on Beacon Hill in Boston.

MassINC pursues its goals through three main vehicles.
Research:
MassINC research builds a bridge between the state’s rich academic resources and the public, business, and civic communities. The organization frequently collaborates with some of the nation's leading scholars to develop and present findings that are routinely cited, referenced, and used by leglislators, policymakers, and community leaders.
Journalism:
MassINC is the publisher of CommonWealth, the award-winning journal of ideas, politics, and civic life in Massachusetts. The magazine's editors and writers, along with MassINC staff and partners, also contribute newspaper op-ed articles and broadcast commentary on key issues facing the state of Massachusetts. In addition, the editorial staff of CommonWealth collaborate with the State House News Service to produce and maintain the IssueSource online reference on politics and policy in Massachusetts.
Civic life:
MassINC produces public events that give voice to diverse ideas and provide opportunities to interact with policy makers, expert commentators, influential journalists, labor leaders, business innovators, and elected officials. This civic programming currently encompasses the following: panel events that delve ainto the findings and implications of the organization's research; a series of CommonWealth Forums built around topics from CommonWealth magazine; and RealTalk - thematic town-hall style programs and events for civic-minded young adults.

MassINC is a tax-exempt, 501(c)3 organization funded through grants and contributions from individuals and sponsoring foundations, institutions, businesses, and labor unions representing the full range of viewpoints in the community. The MassINC board of directors reflects the organization's impartial, nonpartisan philosophy and includes leaders from both political parties as well as the business, labor, academic, and philanthropic communities.
