Cleaning up my departure dating back to mid-Oct.
I have less time than I used to. I also think that Wikipedia is becoming less and less effective, for various reasons, including
- Increasing "battles" between different elements of the community
- Excessive importance to details of policy making the atmosphere increasingly challenging for idealistic newcomers
- Increasing damage by cranks and naive users at the expense of experts (note this is not vandalism, which is easily found and reverted, but more insidious)
I continue to respect and admire Wikipedia, both the ideals and what it has managed to achieve, and I continue to have faith in community-generated knowledge development and hope that at some point we will learn how to do it better. Martinp 15:19, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
