Hello to another user who seems to be solely interested in pedophelia related articles. IP search indicates you are Arturo Zaldivar Mendez Periferico Sur, 3190, address: 01900 - Ciudad de México - DF. Is that true? Get-back-world-respect 19:38, 15 Jul 2004 (UTC)
Yes, that's true, but my friends call me "Arty." --Marlais

Hola Arturo. Puedes firmar con ~~~~. ¿Puedes explicarme cómo es que tu único interés en wikipedia es la pederastía? Get-back-world-respect 19:53, 15 Jul 2004 (UTC)
- For strange reasons your name shows up in an internet forum:

Can you explain? Get-back-world-respect 20:00, 15 Jul 2004 (UTC)
Sure, but I'll explain it in English out of respect to this not being a Spanish-language forum. I haven't honestly thoroughly investigated Wikipedia, though I do have an influence on other wikis, typically in the areas of information technology and programming. Perhaps this is partisan of me, but when I wish to discuss IT issues, I typically do it over there, though perhaps Wikipedia would benefit from more interested authors in that area as well. I'll have to check it out when the mood strikes me. The pedophilia issue was actually brought to my attention by someone else, who thought I would find it "amusing" (to use her word). In a sense, it is, but it is also a bit distressing. Pedophiles are the enemy-of-choice at the moment, but twenty years ago, it was another group, and ten years from now, it'll be yet another. To many people make the mistake of hiding behind current legislation, not realizing that the law has not always been that way, and won't always be that way. It's the difference between saying, "Something is wrong because it is illegal," or "Something is illegal because it is wrong." The first is simply naive, and the second requires a defense which does not appeal to the same law in a tautological fashion. Those are the kinds of discussions I enjoy.
If I stumble across--or someone points out to me--another discussion which has the elements I enjoy, regardless what the topic is, I'll probably jump in if I feel I have anything to offer. But I doubt I'll go looking; my attention is divided. (Thanks for the tip on the sign-off, by the way. Damn shame my keyboard doesn't have a tilde key. I have to use the alt code.) - "facetious", interesting. To be honest I doubt that you do speak Spanish. A Mexican without a tilde key? You completely failed to address the question about your hacked IP address. Strange coincidence that you are solely interested in pedophilia here and the hack that was discussed in that forum was related to homosexuality. Strange also that the other newly created account that was solely used to express views similar to yours was somehow similar to yours: user:Madeline. Are you trying to use femenines to deviate from "boylove"? The user whose account is most involved in pedophelia related articles in another language reports his favourite hobby are "girls". I am sure you are by no ways cynical in finding the discussion of child abuse "amusing". Get-back-world-respect 22:16, 15 Jul 2004 (UTC)

- Actually, I don't remember ever claiming to speak Spanish. I suppose in all fairness, I did claim to be Mexican when I made the facetious comment about being this "Arturo" character you discovered, but, like I said, I was being facetious. You're the one who indicated I was supposedly Mexican. As for the "hack," I'm afraid you're going to have to work that one out all by yourself. I don't honestly see that my IP, my location, my nationality, or the languages I speak are in any way related to the content of my commentary. I can be gutter scum, and still say something that is true. And I can be the President of the United States, and still say something that is untrue. The comments will have to stand or fall on their own merits.

- I plead ignorance to the user Marline you mentioned. I use exactly one user name here, and one only. Prior to registering that, my posts should have all been coming from the same IP, at any rate... unless I posted over one of those periodic changes the ADSL companies do every now and then.

- As far as being cynical... yeah. I get accused of that an awful lot. Marlais 22:48, 15 Jul 2004 (UTC)

- The comments made with the IP-address 201.135.118.109 that leads to that hacked Mexican guy you claimed to be were later signed by you. So you lied, and you were using a hacked IP address. That does not refute your arguments but it shows you are dishonest and indicates what kind of contribution one can expect from you. Get-back-world-respect 08:19, 16 Jul 2004 (UTC)

- As near as I can tell, that is, in fact, my IP address (and I've never claimed otherwise). It's not hacked. Perhaps someone competent ought to verify that. However you connected that to a hacked IP, or to this other "Arturo" character you've discovered, is, I'm afraid, a consequence of your technique, and not any behavior of mine. What "kind of contribution" you can expect from me will be determined by the kind of contribution I make. Nothing else is relevant. Marlais 16:50, 16 Jul 2004 (UTC)

- A simple IP search showed the IP address to belong to the person you pretended to be, and that person was apparently hacked by someone who engaged in actions connected to sexuality. Get-back-world-respect 21:03, 16 Jul 2004 (UTC)

- It may have been a simple IP search, but you're apparently not very good at doing IP searches. IANA (the international authority that assigns IP addresses) reports they assigned that IP address to LACNIC (the regional authority for my area). You got that far. LACNIC further assigned that IP address to Uninet, S.A. de C.V., giving the responsible party as one Dr. Arturo Zaldivar Mendez, who, in addition to having the street address you mentioned on Periferico Sur, also has the e-mail address of azaldiva@telmex.net (your mistake 1: assuming that the first Arturo Zaldivar Mendez you discovered must be the only one that exists). Telmex... hmm... that would be Teléfonos de México, S.A. de C.V., México's oldest and largest telephone company and erstwhile monopoly. Now, it seems that Dr. Zaldivar is also a partner in the Mexican law firm of Zaldivar y Aramburu, S.C. So we know he's an attorney, as well. Seems like he's faculty at ITAM, too (Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México). Odd that you would think I was a professor at a Mexican university, yet not know how to speak Spanish. Anyway, what's Uninet? It's a company that provides direct connections to the Internet backbone (they also own a few satellites, which I didn't know until just now). Among their clients, they list the government of Mexico and--once again--Teléfonos de México, S.A. de C.V. (your mistake 2: assuming that the last client you were capable of finding must have been the one using the address). Telmex offers internet services, in conjuction with Prodigy, to the public at large. And I'm one of their clients, benefitting from a Telmex/Prodigy-provided ADSL connection. And what of Zaldivar? He seems to be the attorney retained by both Uninet and Telmex... proving that once again, in Mexico, it's not what you know, but who you know that counts.
