[edit] Welcome back
Welcome back. KillerChihuahua?!? 12:06, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Frederick Lois Riefkohl
Hi Tony. I took a look at Frederick Lois Riefkohl yesterday and made some edits. If I have time later today, I may go back for a second round. — ERcheck (talk) 22:55, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
- I reviewed the German immigration article as well — and made some copy edits. — ERcheck (talk) 14:38, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Puerto Ricans in Philadelphia
I thought you might like to be aware of this:
Book about the Puerto Rican community of Philadelphia
Chris the speller 17:02, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
- It's not much fun fixing up articles like "Fernando E. Rodriguez Vargas" when there's hardly anything to do. ;-) I moved the birthplace out of the opening sentence, per WP:DATE and WP:MOSBIO. The other changes were so minor I wouldn't have bothered to edit the article if it hadn't been requested. Very professional-looking! Chris the speller 01:58, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Memorial Monument
Thanks for sharing the great news on the addition of Captain Manuel Rivera and Captain Humberto Roque to the Memorial Monument.
Sorry to hear that you have been under the weather. My prayers are with you for improved health. Take care of yourself.
— ERcheck (talk) 18:50, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Rafael Celestino Benitez
I did take a look around for more information on Rafael Celestino Benitez. As you can see, I did make some edits to the article. I am surprised that there was not more information immediately available. — ERcheck (talk) 22:00, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Additional edits and question
I made some edits to Fernando Luis Garcia — standardizing it to match the other USMC MOH recipients. In addition, I uploaded (replaced) a higher resolution image over the top of the one you had originally uploaded.
I was reviewing the Humbert Roque Versace article. Would you mind if the images of the ribbons were removed from the infobox? They are already in the decorations section and in order to be more standardized and to help with rendering in the infobox space, I think it would look better to leave them out. What do you think?
— ERcheck (talk) 22:45, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Verifiability
Tony, very interesting question you left for me. I spent a good amount of time reviewing various policies and guidelines on verifiability and citations, etc. The overarching guideline that I think needs to be met with inclusion of the information about upcoming recognitions of Humbert Roque Versace and Manuel Rivera is that it can be verified by other editors. As I've read in a number of locations, Wikipedia wants to be able to have independent verification, not just the truth. So, what would unquestionably allow others to verify the information? Publication / press release by the PR government or publication in a reliable secondary source. One potential secondary source could be El Boricua — though if it was published there, it would be best that you not add the material to Wikipedia articles, but rather rely on an independent editor to add the information. Otherwise, the information can easily be added after the Memorial Day ceremony, as I feel sure that there will be press coverage which will result in published secondary sources. — ERcheck (talk) 02:04, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Reference
Hey Tony how you doing? I wanted to thank you for adding references to the Military history of Puerto Rico article and point out that there is one missing ref, ref #55. Can you add it? Thanks. Joelito (talk) 15:08, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] For kind words and women in combat
The Random Acts of Kindness Barnstar | ||
For the kind words regarding History of women in the military, my first major contribution to wikipedia, which gave me the confidence to continue working as best I can. Also for your own excellent work on the article itself, the first ever barnstar I award goes to you SGGH 18:19, 26 October 2006 (UTC) |

- Thats some story! Kudos. Oh by the way, I've put the mozambican war of independence up for collaboration, partly to encourage support for a african military project, thats to be my next big project! --SGGH 09:11, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Puerto Rican citizenship recognized
Hi Marine, I opened a section in Puerto Rico -talk about the recognition of the Puerto Rican citizenship by the Government of Puerto Rico (happened this week for the first time since the constitution of 1952 was established). Do we add a couple of sentences to the main article or a new page? We need your imput. Thanks.--vertical 15:57, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Rafael Celestino Benitez
Do you have a larger picture / color picture of Rafael Celestino Benitez? I've looked at the one currently in the article, and cannot definitively say that there is a star (in lieu of a second award), though it looks that way. Perhaps you could send an inquiry to the U.S. Navy, or ask through some of your other contacts for some official word. — ERcheck (talk) 06:23, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
- I got a second opinion — says "yes", of course. So, you are probably correct that there is a second award. But, as with all things Wikipedia, since WP:Verify is a policy, it would be good to find a source that states this. I am surprised that there is not more information available online. — ERcheck (talk) 06:29, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
- OK, another opinion on my talk page ... most probably a star. I do think it is important to find out what he did to earn the second award — both from the verifiability point and for recognizing the full extent of his contributions. Do you think your contacts could help you get a reference to this information? BTW, are you opposed to converting to the standard Military person infobox? — ERcheck (talk) 01:18, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
I've done some initial copyediting. I have a few questions:
- Was Benitez' Naval Academy application actually made after high school graduation, or was it that he was admitted to the Academy and attended directly out of high school?
- In the Early years section, it indicates that he was awarded his first Silver Star for actions during WWII. The closest reference is from the Sontag book. Do you have the book? If so, can you look up where in the book (page number, chapter (w/title)) that information is located?
- What awards, if any, did he earn for the cochino incidente?
Great on contact with Jose Serrano's office! This would be a perfect opportunity for requesting that his office assist in getting more information about Admiral Benitez' military decorations. Congressional offices are set up to help constituents and this would be the sort information that they might be able to help with. — ERcheck (talk) 04:39, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Admiral Benitez
Thank's for the head's up! I'll try to get a look at it sometime soon. All of a sudden I'm very busy in real life, which definitely has slowed down my wikilife. --CTSWyneken(talk) 11:09, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] And you thought there was nothing new to add
Col. Marxuach wrote an important book titled El lenguaje castellano en Puerto Rico (1903), the book is still cited by linguists, it continues to be an important reference.--Marsiliano 03:34, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Barnstar
The Surreal Barnstar | ||
I, Sharkface217, award you with the Surreal Barnstar. You are a true character, a man who takes pride in his heritage, and is a frequent and important contributor to the Wikipedia project. I hold the opinion that you should have many more awards, but since you don't, I hope this will suffice for now. Keep up the good work. Sharkface217 04:16, 1 November 2006 (UTC) |

[edit] Military history of Puerto Rico
Thank you Tony but it was really you who maintained the FA status of the article. If it weren't for your references the article would not have survived the removal process. I merely cleaned it up a bit. After all that was the article that hooked me on Wikipedia, it was the least I could do. Anyways, see you around. Take care. Joelito (talk) 16:12, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Jose Melendez-Perez
Check out bio for Jose Melendez-Perez. I added him to the list of Puerto Ricans. He is a former Vietnam vet who became a figure in the 9/11 Commision Report. He was successful in denying entry to a terrorist who was going to meet Mohammed Atta in Orlando on August 2001. I thought you would be interested in seeing his biography and the articles on his heroic and wise decision. --XLR8TION 19:49, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] La La (entertainer)
Thanks for catching my mistake there. The previous editor added some vandalism to Ludacris (said he was born in 2001), so I went with the assumption that all of his edits around Ludacris were vandalism. I need to take the hip-hop & rap articles off my watch-list. -- Jim Douglas (talk) (contribs) 06:05, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Delay
Sorry for the delay buddy. Been busy re-intergating - thanks to the old vets the services are really making an effort in ensuring that all combat vets are looked at. Was also planning on retiring but the Army has offered a sweet assignment to Hawaii so I had to work that issue.--Oldwildbill 19:00, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Cleaned up Image:Marine 69-71.jpg
Tony, I took the liberty of taking Image:Marine 69-71.jpg and cleaning it up using some photo editing tools. The resulting image is at Image:Marine 69-71a.jpg. Building on your version, it's also GFDL. Feel free to do with it as you like. If you prefer the original, then delete the mod...whatever you want to do. Just thought you might like a cleaned up version of that photograph. Enjoy, --Durin 14:09, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Enectali Figueroa
I've reviewed the article and made some edits. How does the astronaut candidate process work? How long, from time of interview, does it take before a person is selected/not selected? — ERcheck (talk) 00:02, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Veteran's Day
Thank you, my friend, for your service. The sacrifice you, your battle buddies, all our service men and women, past and present, have secured my liberty to preach, teach and live a peaceful life. I never served myself, but am deeply grateful to you all. My dad and uncles served, as did generations of my ancestors in every war we've fought. I never forget, especially as a friend, a female MP Capt., prepares to deploy. Semper Fi. --CTSWyneken(talk) 11:30, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Header
I'm working to fix those other articles as well. I went through all the ones under the Italian-American category and a few others. It will take time, but.... Cheers, Mad Jack 00:45, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] MLB All-Stars categories
Hello Tony. I'm sorry to say that some people thinks that all American and National Leagues All-Stars should be deleted and merged into their parents. I would favour keeping both categories. I find categories useful for browsing related articles and exploring people with something in common. You know what? Finally, all Dates in Baseball articles were delected because some wiki users don't see baseball history by date as notable or useful. I think is a shame to just threw away all this hard work. Now, is the turn for the All-Stars cats. It could be a bad precedent for future projects. In any event, could you have a look at MLB All-Stars categories for deletion? Please think about this and let me know what you think. Thanks. MusiCitizen 17:51, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
- Tony (and MusiCitizen), I have not proposed removing these two categories, I have proposed to remove the subcategories of the two subcategories. If you want to browse related articles and explore people with something in common, the best place to do that, in the case of All Star rosters would be to have the rosters included in the articles about each All Star game. This is starting to happen. Having the rosters in the articles would remove the category clutter from those athletes that have been in several games. I understand how disappointing it can be to have your work undone by this type of decision. It is, alas, one of the risks of working on a wiki. -- Samuel Wantman 01:52, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

I'm quite curious why you reverted me here. Maybe the edit summary was to brief ("404"), in that case you might want to read HTTP 404. The link which I had removed is still dead, so I removed it again. regards, High on a tree 04:16, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:HectorElizondo.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:HectorElizondo.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
- On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Oden 05:56, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] David M. Gonzales
As I mentioned, the article is coming along and the photos looks great. With some more hard work, the article could be FA material.-- Jreferee 17:03, 24 November 2006 (UTC) I fixed the copyright information at photo. A quick way to find potentially legit images for uploading to Wikipedia is to place the name in Google image search, look for a photo you like, and then look at the link below the photo. If the link is from .mil or the photo is over 100 years old, you may have found a legit images for uploading. For the David M. Gonzales photo, I placed David M. Gonzales in the Google image search box, looked at each page, did not use the www.lamission.edu photo because it was from .edu, and found the same photo at www.army.mil on page 3 of the search. I then cited the .mil link at photo. I found the .mil web site page name by right clicking on the page and bringing up the properties window. I copied Hispanic Americans in the United States Army from the properties widow, pasted it into photo, and I was done. You also may want to check out how I modified the summary of Image:HectorElizondo.jpg. Note how my summary is just a rewording of the Wiki license with the specific facts thrown in. The language in the use in particular articles section was taken from Wikipedia:Fair_use and modified slightly to fit the particular situation. I don't know if it will be sufficient, but is seems to be more directed towards what they are looking for. If you don't protect your hard work now, someone can come by in one year, five years, etc. and delete it.-- Jreferee 09:10, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

--GeeJo (t)⁄(c) • 17:11, 24 November 2006 (UTC)[edit] Re: David M. Gonzales
Hi Tony, Nice article on David M. Gonzales. (I made some edits to the references.) The Congressman and his aide's actions are expected. When a person calls a Congressman's office for help, it is the job of his staff to do the leg work. While the staff does the leg work, it is the office of the Congressman that gives them the clout/authority to accomplish their work. — ERcheck (talk) 03:25, 25 November 2006 (UTC)
- Hi Tony - I received permission to use additional photos of David M. Gonzales and added them to the article for your consideration. Please feel free to arrange/use them how ever you see fit. -- Jreferee 02:54, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

No problem. I think you could probably speedy the article as a copyright violation; the author seems to have only made a few minor changes to the text since its creation. Crystallina 06:14, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] David M. Gonzales
Tony, I note that in the David M. Gonzales article there are two images of Gonzales — the colorized one with the blue background from HomeofHeroes.com and the black and white image from the Army site. Personally, I prefer the black and white image for the infobox. What do you think? I didn't want to make a change without talking to you. — ERcheck (talk) 22:10, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Muna Lee (writer)
Can you help me with two things:
(1) There is a Muna Lee (athlete) and a Muna Lee (writer). The latter was the first wife of Luis Munoz Marin. Can you create a disambugation page to seperate both of them. I don't know how to do so.
(2) I found an article on Muna Lee. In the article it has photos of a young Luis Munoz Marin (maybe in his twenties) and Muna. I would like to incorporate them into his article. Do you know what label I should use for these photos?
(3) Muna lived and died in PR. She wrote how much she loved PR and wrote it in her poetry. Although she was ethnically not PR, would you add her to the list of PR writers? She was the mother of Luis' eldest two children. Muna Lee Article
