I was born on the 27th April 1964, graduated in Computer Science at the University of Kent in 1985, then taught, programmed and did sysadmin there until 1989. I then did Unix Support for five weeks at IRCAM, Paris and was a "Media Artist" at the Kunsthaus, Graz, Austria in 2004. I spent most of the intervening years being what is best described as an Urban Monk in Italy and Sicily, including helping run various Centri Sociali, setting up the [FreakNet] [MediaLab] free-access computing laboratories and creating the Internet editions of copyright-free books in English and Italian.
