[edit] Timeline of Events
Some anonymous IP threw a timeline of events up, expand on it if you can. Someone took it down due to potential copyright violations so I re-wrote it instead (it's easy to take things down but much better to just fix them up). Jachin 01:50, 15 August 2005 (UTC)
- August 12 - Maria Korp is cremated in a small ceremony. Joe Korp hangs himself the same night as cremation was against Maria Korp's faith and he believed she was thus in purgatory and that in taking his own life he could guide her to the other side. This passage is a concern. What references can we cite to verify this information? Did Joe Korp leave a verifiable note detiling these concerns? Or is the editor second-guessing Mr Korp's motives?--The Brain of Morbius 11:23, 16 August 2005 (UTC)
He extensively spoke to various family members on the topic, every mainstream Australian news-paper or television show on the topic could be used as a reference if need be. :)
True. Gust Korp in particular was vociferous about this both before and after her death. You should note, though, that the Age reported at the time the situation was talked through with the priest she was close to. Antechinus 08:27, 30 August 2005 (UTC)
Richardcavell 14:43, 10 September 2005 (UTC) - I doubt that Joe killed himself for this reason. He probably killed himself because he didn't want to go through a murder trial/jail/etc. Do we have to give credibility to this murderer's rationalisation of his inappropriate behaviour?
- I am not a member or whatever here.I have never added/edited anything before this....... I find the section titled "Sudden recollections" completely out of line (and pretty irrelevant). It's almost an attack on the girls character. It's terribly biased -
[edit] Maria Korp Photograph
I couldn't really find a good free-for-use photograph of Maria Korp, the only one I dug up she looks quite daft in, but it'll have to do until we can get something a little more flattering. Please, out of respect to the Korp family, avoid using the hospital photos that there is a legal uproar in the courts at the moment about. Jachin 01:50, 15 August 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Mental Health
One issue needed to be raised is the state of Maria (and possibly Joe's) mental health. The numerous ironies and eccentricities that came out through the media over the last year have been bizarre to say the least. A devout catholic family who join a swingers site. Mrs Korp's sacrifice of a goat and building of a pyramid in her backyard. Her incessant urge to 'cleanse' the house of evil spirits using incence and prayer. Joe Korp's belief that because Mrs Korp was cremated, she could not enter heaven; thus in irony he killed himself to 'be her guide' (the irony being, in the catholic faith, suicide == instant eternal damnation).
I will post a little on the topic, yet if someone can expand on it it'll be greatly appreciated. Jachin 01:50, 15 August 2005 (UTC)
Note that Maria's sister says the goat story is distorted - they raised a goat and butchered it according to traditional practices. The only source for these stories I can find are anonymous - "friends of the Korp family", and they all malign Maria. That story about her putting her leg over him is so sexual it invites another meaning. Everyone agrees she was very devout; mother and daughter are consistent about the story of the clairvoyant; I would not be at all surprised if Maria honoured her dead husband because the money from that marriage was used to buy the Greenvale house.
I don't personally want to comment much on someone's mental health because we are not there to judge. But I would suggest that Joe's behaviour was pretty erratic. We know he did the swinger's stuff, he worked out the crime, Gust says Maria told him that Joe was trying to get her to kill herself (or behaviour very close to that) and it makes sense that Joe forced his wife into the sex. She may well have been in fear of her life through this time, which would lead her to reconcile with people she felt she had wronged.
It is probably very impolitic to cite this, but I have posted extensively on the story at http://dox.media2.org/barista/archives/002334.html. I assembled all the evidence I could find. Jachin in particular might like to read it and see if it helps in building this stub. I absolutely agree, btw, about the hospital photo. Antechinus 08:40, 30 August 2005 (UTC)
I would strongly suggest that the whole section on Laura be removed, since it clearly defamatory and contains a number of hostile editorial statements which are not backed by any cited sources. In my fairly extensive survey of the sources, I can find nothing which suggests she substantially changed her story or was a significantly unreliable witness. We should probably note that Laura's role brought her into conflict with the Korp family over the will. Gust blamed her vociferously for Joe's death, over the matter of the cremation. There may be a custody battle yet to be fought.
There is very little feeling so far that this stub is balanced, objective or supported by extensive cross references.Antechinus 09:25, 30 August 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Joe Korp
Would someone be so kind as to fire up the Joe Korp entry? I haven't done enough reading into him to be confident enough to write it up. Jachin 18:56, 20 August 2005 (UTC)
