[edit] Thank You
OMG! I can't believe there is actually an article on Wikipedia about "Shakey Lady"! I hope this article will expose her con to the entire world!
[edit] I remember
Walking down Yonge street in front of the Eaton Centre with a buiddy and remarking when I saw her "there's no way she is like that. She is definitely faking" to which my buddy admonished me saying that she might be real. Sure enough, she is a fake. Chris66 13:43 August 22, 2006
I honestly didn't think a panhandler would be worth an article. I was wrong; this is quite well-written. DS 21:39, 14 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- Thank you. Actually, Margita Bangova isn't quite as important as the controversy which ensued following her exposé; there's certainly room for the article to be expanded there. Her case makes interesting discussion for those who debate the value and effectiveness of charity (both specific kinds or charity in general). (As an aside, I used to live in Toronto and personally encountered Bangova on a number of occasions before her story broke in the Toronto Sun.) Psychonaut 22:42, 14 Jan 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Article is inaccurate as Czechoslovakia didn't exist when Margita arrived in Canada
Which country did Margita come from, Slovakia or Czech Republic? Czechoslovakia divided into the aforementioned countries on 1 January 1993 (follow the Wikipedia links!). It seems to be a common misconception that Czechoslovakia still exists.
- I fail to see any inaccuracy here. Margita was born at a time when Slovakia and the Czech republic were united. Therefore describing her as "a Gypsy from Czechoslovakia", as the article does, is perfectly fine. Psychonaut 09:18, 15 July 2005 (UTC)
She came from Czech republic as Czech citizen, I fixed it. --kelovy 01:16, 15 August 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Audio available
I have several photographs of the Shaky Lady in action, as I was on her trail for several years before the Toronto Sun exposed her on the front page. I also have an audio recording of her beating me with her cane. I'm the former owner of the domain shakylady.com. Any of this of use to Wikifolk? --bigasssuperstar.com
