[edit] Career

Professor of Economic statistics at the University of Udine, he belongs to an ancient Friulian family and he lives in Strassoldo, in the Town District of Cervignano del Friuli.

He has been actively involved for years in associations for the safeguarding and valorisation of the cultural heritage in Friuli and for the Friulian culture and language, both in Friuli and in the Friulian communities around the world. He has also been involved in other volunteer associations, also in his own Town District.

He has collaborated several times with the Government of the Province of Udine and other Friulian Provinces to carry out studies, research and projects on topics regarding economic development and social services.

From these collaborations, which often required consultation meetings with local administrators and association leaders, he acquired an in-depth knowledge of the functions and responsibilities of the Province and of the characteristics of the provincial territory.

In nine years of office as Rector of the University of Udine (1992 - 2001), he gave proof of his managerial and leadership skills at the head of such a complex structure, and received unanimous consensus three times from the board of University professors.

His ruling action at the apex of the Friulian University followed two routes: the conquest of complete autonomy and its well-rooted presence on the territory, conceiving the University as a driving force of the progress of the Friulian community and as a front-window of Friuli in important international circuits of science and innovation.

In nine years of intense work, the University became one of the most dynamic and prestigious universities in North-eastern Italy.

His actions have allowed a powerful tool of social progress and economic growth to be at the service of families and young people.

He independently accepted to place his governing experience and his administration skills at the service of the provincial community, in order to contribute to the development of the Provincial Administration of Udine and to its leading role in building a strong, autonomous and united Friuli.
