Maryland Route 33

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Maryland Route 33 is an east-west state highway in Talbot County, Maryland. From the west, Route 33 passes through Tilghman Island, St. Michaels, and Easton.

[edit] History

The route was originally designated MD 17, however in the late 1930s it swapped designations with what was then Maryland Route 33, present-day Maryland Route 17. Prior to 1953, MD 33 was routed onto Kent Island in Queen Anne's County via the Romancoke-Claiborne ferry, but when the ferry stopped running in 1953, MD 33 was rerouted along Maryland Route 451 to Tilghman Island. The portion of former MD 33 in Talbot County picked up the Maryland Route 451 designation and the Kent Island portion became Maryland Route 8.
