Maryland Route 222

Maryland Route 222 hugs the Susquehanna River from Perryville north to U.S. Route 1 in Cecil County.

Maryland 222 starts in the south as Aiken Avenue in Perryville at an intersection with Maryland Route 7 (Broad Street). North of Pulaski Highway (U.S. Route 40), the highway is called Perryville Road. Near Interstate 95, Maryland 222 shares the road with Maryland 275 as Perrylawn Drive, but then Maryland 222 turns east towards the river as Bainbridge Road. When it reaches the Susquehanna River (and the Conrail tracks, the highway turns north (and upstream) as Main Street in Port Deposit. North of town, the highway is called Susquehanna River Road, running between the river and the tracks up to its end at U.S. Route 1.

The entire length of Maryland 222 was once part of U.S. Route 222. When that designation was taken from the road south of U.S. Route 1 in 1995, it was numbered as Maryland 222 (outside Cecil County's designated number range).

MD 222 between Port Deposit and US 1 was ground down the concrete and repaved during the summer of 2006.
