Mary Washington House

This is the house in Fredericksburg, Virginia that George Washington's mother Mary Ball Washington resided in. She lived there from 1722 until her death in 1789. It is now a city landmark and is open for tours. [1]

  • In the main parlor, the picture seems to frown when a person enters, and smiles when they leave.
  • In Mary Ball Washington's bedroom, the portrait by the fireplace's eyes seem to roll and move.
  • In the dining room, if the table is set, then the silverware and glasses seem to shake slightly, even when nothing moves them.
