Mary Abercromby, 1st Baroness Abercromby

Mary Anne Abercromby, nee Menzies, 1st Baroness Abercromby (b.bef. 1752 – 11th February, 1821) was a Scottish socialite, the daughter of John Menzies.

She married Lt.-Gen. Sir Ralph Abercromby, son of George Abercromby, on 17th November, 1767, and had the following children:

  • Hon. Mary Abercromby
  • Hon. Catherine Abercromby
  • George Abercromby, 2nd Baron Abercromby (1770-1843)
  • Gen. Hon. Sir John Abercromby (1772-1817)
  • Rt. Hon. James Abercromby, 1st Baron Dunfermline (1776-1858)
  • Lt.-Col. Hon. Alexander Abercromby (1784-1853)


On 28th May 1801, she was created 1st Baroness Abercromby of Aboukir and Tullibody suo jure, for her husbands gallantry at the battle of Alexandria.
