Martinez (Amtrak station)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Martinez Station is a rail station in Martinez, California, the county seat of Contra Costa County. It is served by the Oakland-San Joaquin-Fresno Amtrak route, the Capitol Corridor commuter train from Sacramento to San José through Oakland, and the San Joaquins. The station is served by local County Connection bus service and also connecting service from WHEELS and Tri-Delta transit. The station was remodeled in the late nineties, improving its aethestic appeal. There is a transit center for the buses, and also kiss and ride areas for rides and taxis and extensive surface level parking.
There are plans to use measure J monies to build a Ferry Terminal and begin a ferry service to San Francisco from this waterfront station on the Suisan Bay/Sacramento-San Joaquin Rivers Delta of the San Francisco Bay. This would make it very unique being a bus, ferry, and rail intermodal transit hub.[citation needed]
The proposed wBART, an extention of BART service but through connecting heavy DMU rail from current terminals may run thru Martinez on their way to Solano County via the Benicia-Martinez Railbridge if extended beyond the prelimenary terminal in nearby Hercules. [citation needed]
