Martin Adams

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Martin Adams (born June 4, 1956) is an English darts player. His nickname is Wolfie. He is currently number one in the BDO world rankings and will be the number one seed for the 2007 BDO World Darts Championship. He plays county darts for Cambridgeshire.

Following the formation of the Professional Darts Corporation in 1993, all the players that left the British Darts Organisation were banned from playing county darts leaving England searching for a new team and a new captain. Martin Adams took over the role in 1994 and has remained captain since. He is now the longest reigning England captain ever.

Adams has won many BDO Open events and twice won the WDF World Cup singles, but has often missed out on winning the biggest tournaments. Despite a consistent high world ranking, he has only reached the World Championship Final once - losing out to Raymond van Barneveld in 2005.

In the other major BDO events, Adams was beaten in the 2005 Leendesk Masters final by Mervyn King, in the 2006 Bavaria World Darts Trophy final by Phil Taylor and lost to 17 year-old Dutch youngster, Michael van Gerwen in the 2006 Winmau World Masters Final
