Martie Erwin

Martie Maguire, née Erwin, (born October 12, 1969) is an American country music songwriter, recording artist and musician, born in York, Pennsylvania and currently residing in Austin, Texas. Martie and her sister Emily started busking on the streets of Dallas, Texas back in 1989.^[1]

Martie is a founding member of the Dixie Chicks along with her sister Emily Robison and two other members who have since left the band and been replaced by Natalie Maines. The group has been performing since 1989. Martie plays fiddle, mandolin, viola and sings background vocals in the group.

She married Gareth Maguire, a Roman Catholic from Northern Ireland in a civil ceremony in Hawaii, before a Catholic "blessing" ceremony was held in the groom's hometown in County Antrim. Erwin said that the Catholic Church would not permit a wedding service due to her prior marriage, which ended in divorce. She also said that some of her husband's Catholic friends had referred to her as a "heathen". It is not clear whether she agreed to raise their children as Catholics. During promotion of the album Home, the Dixie Chicks made frequent reference to the fact that "White Trash Wedding" was written about Martie and Gareth's nuptuals.

Martie and Gareth have two children, twin daughters Eva Ruth and Kathleen Emilie, born April 27, 2004.
