Marlon Guillermo Lara Orellana (born April 30, 1966 in San Pedro Sula, Honduras).

Lara's family moved to Puerto Cortes, Honduras where he grew up. His father Wenceslao Lara was also mayor of Puerto Cortes.
His brother Wencelao Lara Orellana was elected Congressman January 25, 2006 - January 25, 2010.
He is married to Karina Howell and has a daughter named Ana Karina.
Marlon Lara holds a Doctor in Chemistry and Pharmacy from UNAH (Universidad Autónoma de Honduras) and an Executive Master of Business Administration (MBA) from INCAE (Instituto Centroamericano de Administracion de Empresas). He speaks 3 languages: Spanish, English and French.

Lara is an active member of the Honduran Liberal Party (Partido Liberal de Honduras).
In 1989, at age 23, he started his political career by running for and almost winning a seat in the National Congress.
In 1993 he ran for Mayor of Puerto Cortes, winning the election overwhelmingly. With his two subsequent re-elections, Lara was mayor for 3 consecutive terms (January 25, 1994 - January 25, 2006), a feat unprecedented among Honduran mayors.
In 2004 he started an internal movement within the Liberal in order to win candidacy for President of Honduras in the near future.

[edit] Accomplishments
During his 12 years as Mayor, Marlon Lara made many improvements and modernization works in Puerto Cortes:
- Improvement of the water supply system [1]
- Improvement and installation of a modern sewage disposal and treatment system (the first one of this kind in Central America).
- The Mercado Municipal (Municipal Market) is now operated by a local Cooperative of Vendors.
- Rebuilt of the Parque Central (Central Park).
- Many avenues and streets are now totally covered with pavement.
- The connection linking two highways (one from Puerto Cortes to San Pedro Sula and the other from Puerto Cortes and the border with Guatemala (known as CA-3). Mexican government made some financial aid and Vicente Fox President of Mexico, Ricardo Maduro President of Honduras and Marlon Lara, Mayor of Puerto Cortes inaugurated it in June 29, 2005 [2].
- Rebuilt two modern public elementary schools (known as Escuelas Modelos or Model Schools): Marco Aurelio Soto in Barrio El Porvenir and Reginald H. Hammer in Barrio Campo Rojo.
- Helped and supported the installation of the Puerto Cortes Campus of Universidad Tecnológica de Honduras (UTH).
- Rebuilt the Franklin Delano Roosevelt High School
- Built the new Bridge "La Laguna"
- With the help of Empresa Nacional Portuaria, El Malecon was built. This is a wall which surround portion of the coastline in the bay area.
- Converted the Water Supply Company from totally Public into a Mixed-Capital (The Mayor is still the President of the Board of Directors).
- Redirected the traffic flow through streets and avenues
- Built the Pueblo Nuevo Bridge
- Linked the San Pedro Sula-Puerto Cortes highway with downtown of Puerto Cortes.
- Implement the first¨Geographical Information System GIS.
- Rebuild the Stadium known as Excelsior and installed its modern illumination system.
- When Drivers wanted to get a new or to renew the driver license, they used to travel to San Pedro Sula, nowadays after contact between Marlon Lara and Tegucigalpa Top-Level Officials, an office operates in Puerto Cortes and driver licenses are issued in matters of minutes.
- Playa la Coca Cola (Coca Cola Beach) has a new paved way.
- The USAID and the Inter-American Development Bank have always supported Marlon Lara Administration in many projects, by providing assistantship and financial aid [3].
Because of his outstanding work he is considered by many the best Honduran mayor of all times and one of the best in Latin America.

- Special invitee 3 times to Central America and Honduras parade in September of each year in New York City.

Since January 27, 2006 he is the Minister-Director of FHIS-Fondo Hondureño de Inversion Social (Honduran Social Investment Fund) under President Jose Manuel Zelaya Rosales Administration.
In May 2006 a CID-Gallup Poll showed that Marlon Lara had the highest favorable public opinion among all Ministers of Jose Manuel Zelaya Rosales Administration.
