Marlatt Hall is the only all-male residence hall at Kansas State University. It is located on the West side of Kansas State's Manhattan, Kansas campus in the Kramer Complex. The other building in the same complex are the Kramer Dining Complex and Goodnow Hall.
Marlatt Hall features a Billards, television, and exercise room each in their respective areas of the hall. An interesting feature is that Marlatt is one of only two Kansas State University Residence Halls that contains a dark room, the other being Moore Hall.
Marlatt contains a high concentration of Engineering and Architectural students.[1] due to its location on campus. Marlatt is well known for being the most efficient of the residence halls at Kansas State University. Their operations and use of resources are headed by the director David Yoder and the Hall Governing Board which has excelled their position as an influence on the university.
Unfortunately, Marlatt is also known for being the most outdated of the residence halls at Kansas State University. This is primarily due to the postponement of much-needed renovations in the late 1990's. There have been slight renovations before the postponement, but there are current plans in action for the renovation of the main lobby and entrance doors.

Marlatt Hall is named after Washington Marlatt, an early Manhattan settler, minister and administrator at Bluemont Central College, later renamed Kansas State University.[2]
Marlatt is known for being the most run-down of the dorms on K-State's campus, most directly due from scheduled renovations in the late 90's and early 00's being cancelled. Usually, this is explained by the administration as being due to other residence hall's renovations. However, now all other halls are renovated and construction has started on Jardine Terrace Apartments, still without any modifications to Marlatt Hall's lobby.[3] Many residents feel that this is actually due to lack of concern for the all-male residents' hall by KSU officials.
Marlatt did however get several suites placed in its basement in 2003. There is a gameroom, television room, exercise and weight room. Also, Marlatt is one of only two Halls that contains a dark room, the other being Moore.
For many years Marlatt has been teamed up with West Hall for most campus events including homecoming events. This pairing won the overall homecoming award in 2003 and 2004 until it became apparent that West no longer wanted to be paired with Marlatt by placing the question "Do you want to be stuck with Marlatt Hall again next year?" on a 2004 questionnaire. Therefore in 2005 it was decided to switch to Moore Hall, which Marlatt has a better relationship with. Despite having a very uninvolved Marlatt Hall president that year the rest of the HGB was able to complete the work with the Moore Hall counterparts, and in 2005 the overall homecoming award was won by the "Moore-Marlatt team." The pairings for Homecoing were changed again for 2006 and Marlatt is now with the Strong Complex (Van Zile, Putnam, Boyd Halls).
The Hall has several traditions that are carried out to this day. Of these traditions, the most well known is the "Marlatt-West Casino Night." This event started in 1984 and has taken place in the Student Union annually for twenty-one years. In the 2005-2006 school year the hall president chose not to secure the room for the event, causing the casino night not to take place after what is known as the "first blackjack." Plans are underway for Casino Night to take place in te 2006-2007 schol year.
[edit] Marlatt Hall HGB and KSU ARH relations
While the KSU Association of Residence Halls strongly encourages the "student living quarters" to be referred to as residence halls in meetings(and in general), the Marlatt Hall residents and many members of the HGB refer to Marlatt as a dorm. This is due in part to many Marlatt Hall residents feeling they are treated unfairly in respect to the ARH and the other HGBs; therefore they don't feel the need to follow "useless" guidelines.
Marlatt ARH representatives have been seen as principal antagonists of the ARH board over the last few decades, especially from around 1997 to 2003 and under the hall's presidency of Jim Stoutenborough. Marlatt representatives now take a pride in their adversarial nature.
