Markina-Xemein is a town and municipality located in the province of Biscay, in the autonomous community of Basque Country, northern Spain. The origin of the town's name lays in its geographic location. The last town in Biscay, Markina lays between Guipuscoa and Biscay. Coming from the Spanish word "marca" meaning "mark", Markina-Xemein marks the location where the Guipuzkoanos often battled the Bizkainos.
