From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Markham River is a river in eastern Papua New Guinea, it originates in the Finisterre Range and flows for 180 km (110 miles) to the Huon Gulf.
There is some kind of connection between the name Markham, who settled as a free man after being pardoned as a convict in Tasmania in about 1860 or so. The region where he settled is called the Huon Valley.
