Mark Whitaker has been the editor of Newsweek magazine since November 1998.

Whitaker's association with Newsweek began in 1977 as a reporting intern in the San Francisco bureau. He joined the magazine fulltime in 1981 in New York. In September 2006, it was announced that Whitaker was to be replaced as managing editor by Jon Meachem.
