Mark August Stoermer (also Mark August Störmer) is the bassist for the band The Killers.

Stoermer attended Chaparral High School in Las Vegas with future bandmate Brandon Flowers, where he played trumpet in the jazz ensemlbe. Later, he took music classes with another future bandmate Ronnie Vannucci Jr. at the UNLV.
Mark worked as a medical courier, shipping biohazardous materials and live organs for transplants from one end of the Vegas Valley to the other. This job gave him ample time to study the music of The Rolling Stones on his car stereo.
Before joining the Killers, he was a hardcore fan watching their shows and heard they were searching for a bassist via Ronnie. Initially, he felt he was just a substitute when he began playing with the band in October 2002. Before joining the Killers, he was a hardcore fan watching their shows and has claimed that he loved the Killers' music from the get-go. He was also finishing up a degree in philosophy at the time of joining the band.
But Mark also thought of himself as a guitarist and songwriter first, and a bassist second. He had his own means of artistic expression that he longed to fullfill. He shared with friends his concern that the Killers might not make it. His friends, to their credit, told him to hang in there. The Killers would surely get signed, and did months later.
