Mark O'Leary

Mark O'Leary is a guitarist and composer born in Cork, Ireland. He was educated at Musicians Institute in Los Angeles.

He has been called Ireland's most creative guitarist by Jazzwise UK and his releases chamber trio and self luminous were given 4 star reviews by Downbeat magazine. His CD Closure with Uri Caine and Ben Perowsky was highly praised by John Fordham in The Guardian. Duncan Heining of UK Jazzwise called Mark "the most interesting guitarist on the scene at the moment" The Wire enthused "as Self-Luminous progresses it's petals unfold recalling Anton Von Weberns miniatures,evanescent and everywhere at the same time" "Breathtaking" Jazzreview on Levitation

He has toured as a member of Paul Bley's trio. He has performed with Jack DeJohnette, Billy Hart, Peter Erskine, Joey Baron, Sunny Murray, Han Bennink, Jon Christensen, Pierre Favre, Alexander Tarasov and Bobby Previte. Played in duo with pianists Kenny Werner, Bobo Stenson and Paul Bley. Performed with King Crimson/Yes drummer Bill Bruford in a jazz trio and also plays in the Underground jazz trio with Tortoise drummer Johnny Herndon and Bassist Matt Lux. Worked with electronic artist Gunter Muller, performed Norwegian Folk music with Nils Okland and Swedish Folk with Mats Eden.

O'Leary has composed for and performed with Cikada string quartet He has played with trumpeters Kenny Wheeler,Tomasz Stanko and Cuong Vu. He has also collaborated with innovative percussionists Alex Cline,Terje Isungset, Hans Kristian Kjos Sorensen and z'ev

he has performed in 20 countries around the world.
