Mark Landers

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mark Landers (born 1972) is a former Irish sportsperson who played hurling with Cork in the 1990s.

Mark Landers was born in Killeagh in East County Cork in 1972. He was educated locally and had his first taste of hurling success winning the Harty Cup with his school St. Colman's. Landers was quickly noticed and became a member of the Cork minor team that lost the 1990 All-Ireland Final to Kilkenny. He had been a member of the Cork panel in 1992, but suffered a cruciate ligament injury a month before the opening of the championship. The 1990s were lean years for Cork hurlers with no Munster Championship success. This changed in 1998 when Cork won the National Hurling League, with Landers playing a key-role at midfield. In 1999 Landers captained Cork to win the Munster Championship for the first time since 1992, before going on to defeat Kilkenny to take the All-Ireland title.
