Marita Petersen

Marita Petersen (1940, Vágur - 2001) was a Faroese politician and member of the Social Democratic Party. She was elected to the Løgting (Parliament) in 1988, and became the first female Prime Minister of the Faroe Islands. It was also the first time when both Head of State and Head of Government were females in the islands. She served in this capacity from 1993 to 1994. She died of cancer in 2001.
