Mario and Wario (マリオとワリオ Mario to Wario) is a video game released for the Super Famicom in 1993 by Nintendo. Although the game was only released in Japan, the game is entirely in English.
The premise of the game is that Wario has covered Mario's head with items that obscure his vision, such as a bucket, and the player must guide him to safety. The player controls Wanda using the SNES Mouse. With the click of the mouse, Wanda can do various things, such as damage enemies, turn Mario around, or affect other aspects of the environment, with the goal of guiding the continually moving Mario to Luigi, who can take off the respective item from Mario's head. At the end of each world, Wanda battles Wario, who pilots his plane across the sky. Other playable characters include Princess Peach and Yoshi, although the only difference between the three characters is their walking speed.
[edit] Trivia
- This game is mentioned in Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow (and the remakes FireRed and LeafGreen). When the player looks at the television in the "COPYCAT"'s bedroom in Saffron City, their character plays this game. The game says that it is "a game with Mario with a bucket on his head," never directly mentioning the title. (The SNES is also mentioned in several other places, including the player's room and the third floor of the Celadon City Department Store, although only the Saffron City location has the reference.) This is because Game Freak developed Mario and Wario before they were known for the Pokémon series.
- The bucket can be collected as a trophy in Super Smash Brothers Melee.
