Marine surveyor

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A marine surveyor is a person qualified to inspect a ship or boat for the purpose of determining its current condition and seaworthiness. In particular, the marine surveyor will determine if the sea vessel is safe to use in conditions for which the vessel was designed, and what maintenance and repairs are required to maintain the integrity of the vessel. Marine surveyors are engaged by international ship classification societies, i.e. Lloyds, Det Norske Veritas etc, to review construction plans, the building and later condition in service. Other surveyors are employed to inspect cargo and cargo damage, some independent surveyors also undertake pre-purchase surveys of ships and boats and help determine market values.
