Marine Worm Harvester
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Marine Worm Harvesters or "wormdiggers" are a group of both professionals and probably amateurs, mostly in the state of Maine, who make a living gathering worms for use as bait. They harvest both sandworms and bloodworms from mudflats all over the Maine coast.
The industry is heavily regulated. A license must be obtained prior to the sale of marine worms and the harvesting itself must be done by hand with a tool called a worm hoe. These worms can exceed four feet in length.
