Marie Elisabeth of Saxony

Marie Elisabeth of Saxony (22 November 161024 October 1684) was duchess of Holstein-Gottorp as a wife of Duke Friedrich III of Holstein-Gottorp.

She was a daughter of John George I, Elector of Saxony and his wife Princess Magdalene Sibylle of Prussia.

She was married on 21 February 1630 to Duke Friedrich III of Holstein-Gottorp and had four children:

  1. Sofie Auguste (5 December 163012 December 1680), married on 16 September 1649 tp Prince John of Anhalt-Zerbst. Mother of Christian Augustus of Anhalt-Zerbst and grandmother of Catherine II of Russia.
  2. Magdalene Sibylle (24 November 163122 September 1719), married on 28 November 1654 to Duke Gustav Adolf of Mecklenburg-Güstrow. Mother of Louise of Mecklenburg-Güstrow.
  3. Johann Adolf, died young in 1633.
  4. Marie Elisabeth (6 June 163417 June 1665), married on 24 November 1650 to Landgrave Louis VI of Hesse-Darmstadt.
  5. Friedrich (17 July 163512 August 1654).
  6. Hedwig Eleonore (23 October 163624 November 1715), married on 24 October 1654 to King Charles X of Sweden.
  7. Adolf August, died young in 1637.
  8. Johann Georg (8 August 163825 November 1655).
  9. Anna Dorothea (13 February 164013 May 1713).
  10. Christian Albrecht of Holstein-Gottorp (3 February 16416 January 1695).
  11. Gustav Ulrich, died young in 1642.
  12. Christine Sabine, died young in 1644.
  13. August Friedrich (6 May 16462 October 1705).
  14. Adolf, died young in 1647.
  15. Elisabeth Sofie, died young in 1647.
  16. Auguste Marie (6 February 164925 April 1728), married on 15 May 1670 to Margrave Frederick VII of Baden-Durlach.
