Mariano Rumor (June 16, 1915 – 22 January 1990) was an Italian politician, a member of the Democrazia Cristiana and several times Prime Minister of Italy. He was attacked while he was interior minister, in 1973, by Gianfranco Bertolli, an anarchist. Four were killed during the attack, and 45 injured, while Rumor escaped alive from it. Bertolli was in reality a right-wing activist and a long-standing informant of the SID, the Italian military intelligence agency. According to the Italian justice, General Gianadelio Maletti, head of the SID from 1971 to 1975, knew in advance of the attack but failed to advise Mariano Rumor and the Italian justice of Bertolli's true identity. This attack took place in the frame of the "strategy of tension" carried out in Italy during the Cold War [1].
