Mariano Barbosa
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mariano Damián Barbosa (born on 27 July 1984 in Avellaneda, Buenos Aires) is an Argentine football goalkeeper.
Barbosa currently plays as second goalkeeper for Villarreal CF, but had to replace suspended Javier López Vallejo for the second semi-final against Arsenal during the 2005 UEFA Champions League. Even though Barbosa received no goal, the result of the first match of the semi-final prevented Vilarreal from advancing.
He was also the second goalkeeper of the Argentine young team to win the 2003 FIFA World Youth Championship, but replaced banned Gustavo Eberto in the match against Egypt
He has an Italian passport, and is considered as an EU-player. Currently (05/06 season) the three non-EU players for Villarreal CF are Riquelme, G. Franco and Sorín. But Villarreal actually have nine players for South America.
