According to Billboard magazine, 63 million copies of Carey albums had been shipped to retailers in the United States by July 2005.[19] Soundscan reported that Mariah Carey sold 49.1 million albums within the years 1991-2006. She is only behind The Beatles (51.3) and Garth Brooks (66). [20] A Sunday Herald article published on December 11, 2005 reported that Carey had sold around 160 million albums worldwide.[21] Other sources estimate her album sales already at the number of 170 million[6].
