Maria Lopez-Fitzgerald

Maria Ivy Lopez-Fitzgerald is a fictional character on NBC's daytime drama Passions. Maria was played by Sloane Kiley from July 21, 2003 to 2004 or 2005, then played by Hannah and Lauren Maddox briefly in 2005. She then was played by Mercedez and Isabella Soto from November 23, 2005 to December 2005, at which time Layla and Logan Wheeler took over the role.

Kay Bennett (Maria's mother) always had a big crush on Miguel Lopez-Fitzgerald (Maria's father) through childhood which eventually turned into love when she got older. But unfortunately for Kay, Miguel fell in love with a girl,Kay's cousin named Charity whom he started dating. Kay, being desperate, used dark magic to make herself look like Charity so Miguel would sleep with her. The plan worked, but when Miguel realized he had made love to Kay, he felt incredibly guilty.
Kay slept with Miguel on the show July 24, 2002, so most would assume that this was when Maria was concived. However, it wasn't until Christmas when Kay collapsed during Miguel and Charity's wedding and found out that she was pregnant with Miguel's child.
Kay went into premature labor (we can assume since Kay's pregnancy wasn't revealed until Christmas) and gave birth to a baby girl by C-section on July 21, 2003. Kay named the baby Maria Ivy Lopez-Fitzgerald, for Miguel's grandmother and her father's ex-girlfriend. Soon after her birth, Maria nearly died from birth complications, but was saved when Charity told Death that she would end her relationship with Miguel if Maria would be spared. Death took the deal and Maria survived.
Maria is currently best friends with Endora Lenox.

In the book Hidden Passions, Maria's maternal great-grandparents were Benjamin Bennett and Margaret Joyce Bennett (on Sam's side) and Zachary Sutter and Mercy Standish (on Grace's side). She also had at least two more great-uncles on Sam's side. Information in the book has not been confirmed on-screen and is not considered to be official since the information seen on the show contradicts much of what was said in the book.
