Margaret Clemence was a fictional character in the British soap opera Brookside. She first arrived in 1990 as Nanny to Max and Patricia Farnham's son Thomas. During her time in the soap she was noted for her involvement in two controversial storylines. Firstly she became friendly with Roman Catholic Priest Derek O'Farrell and on Christmas Day 1991 went to see him in Church distraught after Patricia had thrown Max out of the house having discovered his affair with ex wife Susannah. The pair kissed in Church and slept together, which is against the rules for a Roman Catholic Priest.
Margaret later became close friends with Beth Jordache and the two shared a passionate lesbian kiss, which caused so much controversy that it was cut from the omnibus edition of the soap later in the week. However Margaret soon came to realise that she was merely experimenting and was not really a lesbian herself. She left the Close in 1994 to join Derek in Bosnia.
