Mareta N. West (1915 – 1998) was an American astrogeologist who in the 1960s chose the site of the first manned lunar landing. She received her bachelor's degree in geology from the University of Oklahoma . Her cremated remains are scheduled to be launched into space in December 2006 or January 2007.
