Marek III of Furstán-Festil
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In the fictional universe of the Deryni novels of Katherine Kurtz, Marek III Furstán-Festil was the sixth Festillic Pretender. He held the title for only one week in 1025, a period of time that roughly coincided with the legitimate reign of King Cinhil II Haldane. Marek inherited the Festillic claim to the throne of Gwynedd after the disastrous Battle of Killingford in 1025. On June 17, the final day of the battle, Marek's grandfather (Prince Imre III), father (Prince Marek II), and elder brother (Prince Festil) were all killed by the victorious Gwyneddan army of King Cinhil II Haldane. The younger Marek managed to escape the slaughter, but he was captured and executed one week later. Upon his death, the Festillic claim to the throne of Gwynedd passed to Princess Ariella II, the elder sister of his grandfather, Prince Imre III.
