Mare may mean any of several things:
- A mare (horse) is a female horse.
- Hence also applied to objects called horses because they resemble an equine, as in gray mare (compare a grey female horse)
- a throw in wrestling
- Historically, a reference to incubus/succubus (see also: Mara)
- Walking (i.e. traveling by shank's mare)
- Mare (band) is the name of a band from Toronto, signed to Hydra Head Records.

- In astronomy, the term is used for large features on planets, moons, etc. that look like a sea, even if no liquid is believed to have occurred on that celestial body.
- In particular, a lunar mare is an ancient basaltic lava floodplain on Earth's Moon, usually inside an impact basin.
