March of the Malvinas
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Marcha de las Malvinas (March of the Malvinas) is a patriotic anthem of Argentina. It is sung in demonstrations to assert Argentina sovereignty claims over the Malvinas (Falkland) islands and was prominently broadcast by the military government-controlled media during the Falklands War. On March 3, 1948, it was performed by Argentina's National Symphony Orchestra.
The lyrics were written by the Argentine poet Carlos Obligado and the music was composed by José Tieri. They won a 1939 contest organised by the Junta de Recuperación de las Malvinas (Malvinas Recovery Commission).
Spanish lyrics | English translation |
¡Tras su manto de neblinas, no las hemos de olvidar! |
Behind their misty quilt we will not forget them! |
Ni de aquellos horizontes Nuestra enseña han de arrancar, |
From those horizons our ensign will not be ripped either |
Por ausente, por vencido bajo extraño pabellón, |
Absent and defeated under an alien banner, |
¿Quién nos habla aquí de olvido, de renuncia, de perdón? |
Who is talking here of neglect, of renouncement, of forgiveness? |
¡Rompa el manto de neblinas, como un sol, nuestro ideal; |
Do break the quilt of mist as a sun, ideal of ours; |
Y ante el sol de nuestro emblema. Pura, nítida y triunfal, |
And facing the sun of our flag, pure, distinct and victorious |
Coro ¡Para honor de nuestro emblema, |
Chorus To honor our flag, |
