María Izquierdo

María Izquierdo (1902-1955) was a Mexican painter born in 1902 at San Juan de los Lagos (Jalisco) with the name María Cenobia Izquierdo Gutiérrez. She was the first Mexican female painter who exposed her works outside her country. Her first paint show took place at the Art Center in New York.
Izquierdo stayed true to her Mexican culture by using the landscape and traditions of Mexico as inspirations for her artwork.
