Maple Leaf Village
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Maple Leaf Village is a former amusement park in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Opened in May of 1979 it was operated by Conklin Shows (operators of the midway at the Toronto Canadian National Exhibition). Falling on hard economic times in the early 1990s, it was torn down and replaced with Casino Niagara, a government run casino.
[edit] History
Built near Clifton Hill, the land is now home to Casino Niagara. The park once boasted the Kodak Tower, much like the Skylon or the Minolta, and one of the northern hemisphere's largest ferris wheels. After the amusement park closed in 1993, the ferris wheel remained unused until it was eventually sold and sent to Australia.
In 1988, the park launched a television advertising campaign featuring the television character Garfield. [1]
