Served in the presidential guard myself. Nowadays evzones use the M1 Garand.

I thought they looked like Garands when I saw them close-up in Greece, but I read a (probably outdated) source that mentioned the Mannlichers.--Jpbrenna 18:03, 7 October 2005 (UTC)

I have three Mannlicher Schönauers 6x54MS, 8x56MS and 7x64. The 8x56MS cartridge deserves a mention. It is also worth mentioning that the rifle and particularly the full stocked carbine handles extremely well and can be brought to bear on a target quickly. The criticism of the action's limited ability to cope with telescopic sights has some merit but with proper mounts the problem can be resolved.
