I just deleted The best secondary school of the state (Baden-Württemberg) is situated in Mannheim. The "Karl Friedrich Gymnasium" has the reputation of being the best institute for education not only in Ancient Greek and Latin but also in science and history. Since its foundation in its modern form in 1807 the KFG (as it is frequently referred to) has produced some of the most important German scientists and philosophers. It recently became a member of the exqusisite group of "European Humanistic Schools".

The KFG might be (or have been) an important school of Mannheim, but it's not an integral part of it. When people think of Mannheim no one things of the KFG. Therefor it does not belong in the article on Mannheim.

Huh? I'm sure there are tons of things about a city that "nobody thinks of" that ought to be in an encyclopedia article. The aim is to educate, not to tell people what they already know. It seems possible that this is just POV which was introduced by a graduate of the school, and that it is not notable enough to be mentioned. I have no idea if this is the case, so I'm not going to restore it. But your explanation for the deletion seems unjustified. john k 15:52, 6 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Just for the record: it is POV introduced by a graduate of the school. I've lived near (20km) Mannheim all my life (34 years) and until now, I've never heard of the KFG. While I believe that it actually may be a very good school, it is certainly not the outstanding institution the writer wants us to believe. (user hogri from german wikipedia, 2005-02-18)

Fair enough. Remove it at will. john k 21:03, 18 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Could somebody look it up if the chemical company BASF is really represented in Mannheim? I'm living near Mannheim and I know that the BASF has its global headquarter in Ludwigshafen, on the other site of Rhine River. So think about it: Ludwigshafen doesn't belong to Mannheim although the cities are just 500 metres away from each other.

In Mannheim as well as in Ludwigshafen, BASF is everywhere. If one is really looking for Mannheim, there's little left: a National Theatre and the Kunsthalle, institutions that for while had national and even international renown. Both is a while ago, and the present mayor - though elected, in Baden Württemberg this is more or less a job for a lifetime - is still focussing his electors, small people growing rabits, hens and bio-corn in the midth of biological desaster. There is really no way out: Forget Mannheim, a.s.a.p. --R.P.D. 03:52, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
