Note that much of the text is lifted directly from here. Unlike earlier versions before the deletion, some of the text has been rearranged. It is not a simple copy-and-paste. However, the vast majority of the text is little altered which makes it a violation of copyright. --Yamla 04:19, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hoax again

>> Manatee meat has a mild taste and readily adapts to recipes for beef. Choice cuts of meat, primarily the tail and peduncle, can be used in any recipe. The body and flipper meat, with just a little extra preparation and special recipes, can be just as tasty.

Looks familiar? http://www.monkeyspit.net/sites/manatee/recipes.html - Quote: "This site is a fictitious work of humor."

It's quite a leap from some historical facts on hunting to a whole article devoted to eating manatees. Note that the original author of this article has a history of uploading nonsense images, copyviolations from joke sites like this, recreating deleted pages, and an obvious manatee meat fixation. I don't know much about the user's history, but an internet search reveals a variety of sources that claim that this hunting and eating did, in fact, occur. At least one of the sources he gives appears to be legit, I have found others that are and will try to find more and add them today. It is also entirely possible that the joke site is using a grain of truth as a basis for its joke and expanding on it with silly recipes like "Manatee spaghetti." That said, some of the article is almost certainly not true (it tastes like beef because its the "cow of the sea?") and we will have to make sure that everything in it is properly sourced at some point. Claiming the entire article is a hoax and nonsense seems a bit harsh to me, though. Recury 13:31, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
Please, we're trying to write an encyclopedia. Not at some point. We have to make sure that everything is properly sourced now. Nobody denies the fact that hunting did occur, and the fact is acknowledged in the manatee article itself. Beyond that, there is no demand for this article.
How much of a page needs to be complete bollocks before you suspect that its creator isn't serious? User:MUBOTE puts images like this http://www.yourdaddy.co.uk/b3ta/manateebone.jpg into articles like Manatee Steak (twice deleted). Now he recreates this article (twice deleted too) with the same silly copyright violations. If this isn't vandalism it's at least deliberate disruption. Femto 14:44, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
If you want to remove the unsourced info, have at it. Otherwise you'll have to wait until I or someone else gets around to it. His intentions frankly aren't all that relevant. Recury 16:27, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
Agreed. A vague basis in irrelevant truth is no reason to keep silliness like this. Also, one of the two links given is to a t-shirt seller - spam. Proposed for deletion. - Corporal Tunnel 15:57, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
