Manurewa is the southernmost major suburb of Manukau, one of the four cities that make up the conurbation of Auckland in the North Island of New Zealand. It is located six kilometres south of the Manukau City Centre, and 26 kilometres southeast of the Auckland CBD.
Manurewa is Maori for soaring birds, the name reputedly referring to the seabirds which are commonly seen crossing the isthmus between the Manukau Harbour and Hauraki Gulf here.
Manurewa has a high proportion of non white ethnicities making it one of the most multi cultural suburbs in Auckland and indeed, New Zealand.
The main shopping centre is located along Great South Road and is named Southmall. There are two supermarkets located in Southmall, New World and Woolworths.
