The Star Album for 1942, published by the Philippine Movie Newsreel, wrote of him: "Arch villain of the local screen is Manuel Barbeyto, who started his film career as a villain in Mary, I Love You. That was in 1926; in this year of our Lord 1940, he is still a villain. Aside from playing villain roles, he likes good food, basketball, Rosa del Rosario, and Tor Villano. He was a student when Jose Nepomuceno spotted him for that Mary, I Love You role. Born in Tondo, Manila, on March 20, 1902, he thinks movie acting is interesting work. Most memorable incident that has happened to him was when his head was bashed against a table during the filming of a fight sequence in Dalagang Silangan."
Manoling, as he was fondly called by close relatives and friends, was married to Florentina Feliciano-Barbeyto (died September 1, 2003) and resided in Gagalangin, Tondo, Manila, where they raised their eight children, namely, Faustino (+), Catalina B. Catanyag, Antonio,Inocencio, Esperanza, Teresa B. Hickey, Corazon B. Brocco, and Gerardo. He died on October 26, 1979, was initially interred at the Manila North Cemetery, and then his remains were transferred to the St. John Cemetery in Caruhatan, Valenzuela City.
