Manuel Cáceres Artesero (born 15 January 1949 in Ciudad Real, Spain), better known as Manolo, el del bombo is Valencia CF and Spain's national football team's most famous supporter and has become a national institution. He is considered by many to be the world's most famous fan. He is easily recognized by his large Basque beret, red number 12 jersey and his famous drum, "El bombo del España" (The drum of Spain), which he bangs throughout the match.
Manolo never misses Spain's international matches and has yet to miss a World Cup since his first in 1982. He has vowed to attend 12 World Cups after which he will hang up his hat at the age of 77.
At the 1982 World Cup in Spain he hitch-hiked 15,800 kilometres in order to follow his team. He has also gone through 9 or 10 "bombos".
He owns a bar next to the Valencia Stadium that doubles as a sports museum. Due to frequent travels in support of his team and his unwillingness to let others run the bar, Manolo has suffered financial losses for his passion. He has also lost his family, who he found gone upon returning from a match in 1987.
