Mannington Township is a Township in Salem County, New Jersey, United States. As of the United States 2000 Census, the township population was 1,559.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 99.5 km² (38.4 mi²). 90.1 km² (34.8 mi²) of it is land and 9.4 km² (3.6 mi²) of it (9.47%) is water.

Mannington Township borders Carneys Point Township, Pilesgrove Township, Alloway Township, Quinton Township, Salem, and Pennsville Township.

As of the census² of 2000, there were 1,559 people, 539 households, and 409 families residing in the township. The population density was 17.3/km² (44.8/mi²). There were 573 housing units at an average density of 6.4/km² (16.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the township was 75.63% White, 20.91% African American, 0.51% Native American, 0.38% Asian, 1.73% from other races, and 0.83% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.34% of the population.

There were 539 households out of which 26.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.9% were married couples living together, 10.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.1% were non-families. 20.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.63 and the average family size was 3.02.

In the township the population was spread out with 22.6% under the age of 18, 4.8% from 18 to 24, 25.5% from 25 to 44, 23.7% from 45 to 64, and 23.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females there were 95.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.6 males.

The median income for a household in the township was $52,625, and the median income for a family was $62,500. Males had a median income of $45,714 versus $29,727 for females. The per capita income for the township was $24,262. About 3.8% of families and 6.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 11.5% of those under age 18 and 8.1% of those age 65 or over.

Mannington Township is in the Second Congressional District and is part of New Jersey's 3rd Legislative District.^[2]

New Jersey's Second Congressional District, covering all of Atlantic County, Cape May County, Cumberland County and Salem County and portions of Burlington County, Camden County and Gloucester County, is represented by Frank LoBiondo (R, Vineland). New Jersey is represented in the Senate by Frank Lautenberg (D, Cliffside Park) and Robert Menendez (D, Hoboken).

The 3rd legislative district of the New Jersey Legislature is represented in the State Senate by Stephen M. Sweeney (D, Thorofare) and in the Assembly by John J. Burzichelli (D, Thorofare) and Douglas H. Fisher (D, Thorofare). The Governor of New Jersey is Jon Corzine (D, Hoboken).

Salem County is governed by a seven-member Board of Chosen Freeholders. Salem County's Freeholders are Freeholder Director Lee R. Ware (term ends 2007), Freeholder Deputy Director Bruce L. Bobbitt (2008), Susan A. Bestwick (2007), Charles R. Sullivan (2008), David Lindenmuth (2008), R. Benjamin Simmermon, Jr. (2006) and Beth E. Timberman (2006).

The Mannington Township School serves students in kindergarten through eighth grade.

For grades 9-12, students attend Salem High School in Salem City, as part of a sending/receiving relationship with the Salem City School District.
